But what you need to know: by doing this, you&#8217;re actually giving up a significant amount of security.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this blog, we&#8217;ll explain simply what it is, why it&#8217;s offered, and why we at Truckned advise you to think carefully about it.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-wat-is-neerzettoestemming-precies\"><strong>What exactly is drop-off authorization?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With delivery services such as DHL, DPD, or PostNL, you can often indicate that your package may be delivered without a signature or your presence. That is called drop-off authorization. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The courier is then allowed to, for example:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>place it by the front or back door<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>leave it in the garden, carport, or shed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or leave it with the neighbors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Very convenient, especially if you&#8217;re on the road a lot or don&#8217;t have a fixed home base.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there is an important downside to it.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-wie-is-er-verantwoordelijk-als-het-misgaat\"><strong>Who is responsible if things go wrong?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As soon as you give drop-off authorization, the responsibility shifts entirely to you as the recipient.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In practice, this means:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>package gets lost \u2192 your risk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>it gets stolen \u2192 your risk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>it gets damaged after delivery \u2192 your risk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>damage from rain, frost, or sun \u2192 your risk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>placed incorrectly by the courier \u2192 also your risk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The carrier can prove that the package was delivered according to your instructions. This means they (and often the webshop too) are no longer liable. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In short: the package is &#8220;delivered&#8221; on paper, and with that, the courier&#8217;s responsibility ends.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-wat-betekent-dit-voor-jou-als-klant\"><strong>What does this mean for you as a customer?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We totally get it: if you&#8217;re on the road a lot with the truck or have varying working hours, convenience is very attractive. Having it dropped off quickly seems ideal. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But in practice, we also see that this regularly goes wrong. And then there&#8217;s often no way back. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s why our advice at Truckned is:<br\/><strong><em>Better not to use drop-off authorization.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, choose:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>delivery with signature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or collection at a pickup point<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This way your package remains insured, traceable, and you avoid hassle afterwards.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cBut the courier offers it themselves, right?\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Correct. Carriers make it easy to choose this option because it makes their work faster. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What they don&#8217;t tell you as clearly:<br\/>as soon as you give your consent, the risk lies entirely with you.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A claim can then no longer be submitted to the carrier if something goes wrong.
